Today’s Cosmetic Surgery
Cosmetic Surgery – Long Term Positive Effects
The results of a recent study on cosmetic surgery and its long-term positive psychological effects have been published in the Clinical Psychological Science journal. Researchers reported that after a patient’s physical appearance had been surgically altered, they demonstrated greater self-esteem, fulfillment and an increase in the enjoyment of life.
The researchers found that women represented 87 percent of all patients who elected to undergo cosmetic surgery. According to their research, younger people with slightly above-average incomes had a greater desire for a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. Some of the goals patients sought to achieve with cosmetic surgery included wanting to feel better, improving their self-confidence and eliminating skin blemishes.
Most of the participants in the study claimed to have achieved their desired goal and were pleased with the long-term results. The patients felt healthier, more attractive, less anxious and had developed more self-esteem.
Laser Lipo Body Sculpting
One of the hottest cosmetic procedures being performed today is laser-assisted liposuction – a form of body sculpting that uses laser technology to melt the fat away. The minimally invasive treatment is used mainly for smoothing out the undersurface of the subcutaneous fat, condensing the tissue and tightening the skin. Laser lipo doesn’t carry the risks of surgery and the laser’s heat stimulates the creation of collagen, which causes a smoothing and tightening of the skin by contracting the tissues around the affected area.
Laser-assisted liposuction can be used on multiple areas of the body including the neck, belly, arms, love handles, buttocks, thighs and calves. The wavelengths of laser energy are specifically calibrated to target unwanted fat while having little effect on the surrounding tissue. This not only creates the desired results, but permits a faster recovery of the affected area.
Natural augmentation of body features such as the breasts or buttocks has grown very popular lately and is achieved with a specialized technique known as fat transfer. Simply stated, your own fat cells can be gently removed by liposuction from donor areas and carefully transferred to another body location.
Fat transfer can also be utilized for facial rejuvenation or lip augmentation. Typical donor sites for collecting fat cells include areas of the abdomen, buttocks, love handles or other areas with donor fat.
The regenerative properties of fat cells have proven to be particularly effective in natural augmentation. When they are woven and blended into the targeted area, the fat cells become part of the living tissues producing a natural look and feel while augmenting the volume in a natural appearing manner. Natural augmentation through fat transfer is a simple, outpatient procedure with a quick recovery and has transformed the landscape of cosmetic surgery for the better.
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive, cosmetic skin rejuvenation process that uses an exfoliating material such as crystals or diamond flakes to gradually remove the outer layer of skin cells. Microdermabrasion can be used to treat skin problems such as acne, light scarring, discoloration, stretch marks, wrinkles, sun damage or to diminish fine lines on the face. The process stimulates new skin growth and collagen production resulting in a younger looking complexion.
With little or no discomfort involved in microdermabrasion, an anesthetic is unnecessary. Downtime and recovery time are minimal, with most patients returning to their daily activities right after the procedure.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
Using pulsating laser light to improve the appearance of your skin by reducing fine wrinkles and scars and tightening loose skin, laser skin resurfacing has become very popular. The fractional laser removes thin layers of damaged skin, smoothing out the surface, blending pigment and helping to improve the overall texture and tone. The healing process stimulates the production of collagen to help give your skin a younger, tighter and healthier appearance. Laser resurfacing can also be used to diminish the appearance of frown lines, laugh lines, crow’s feet, and acne scars.
Chemical peels are used to improve the cosmetic appearance of the skin and are generally performed on the face, neck or hands. A chemical solution is carefully applied to your skin to remove the damaged outer layers and improve the overall texture. The new, regenerated skin looks and feels much smoother than the old skin.
Chemical peels can address the problems associated with wrinkles around the eyes or mouth, mild acne scars, skin texture, skin discoloration or age spots. The results of lighter or more superficial peels normally last about a month, while deeper peels may last several years.
Your doctor can help determine the most appropriate type of chemical treatment for you. The formula used will be adjusted by your doctor to meet your particular needs. The entire process is usually performed in the doctor’s office or in a surgery center as an outpatient procedure.
Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are used to paralyze tiny facial muscles, smoothing out the appearance of lines or wrinkles caused by smiling, laughing, frowning or squinting. The effects of Botox may last three to six months, depending on whether or not you’re a repeat customer, as the number of injections you’ve previously had will generally make the results last longer. Botox isn’t meant to keep you from creating facial expressions, but to give you a more relaxed, rested and happy look.
Fillers containing hyaluronic acid can be injected into the skin to fill in lines and wrinkles and add volume to the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a gelatinous carbohydrate that is present in synovial fluid, connective tissue and the aqueous humor of the eye and can be produced synthetically. Hyaluronic acid injections can effectively eliminate wrinkles, giving the skin a smoother appearance. The effects of the injections usually last between six months and a year.
Cosmetic Surgery Las Vegas
Cosmetic surgeons routinely perform facelifts and neck lifts, eyelid lifts and forehead lifts giving the skin a tighter and smoother appearance. Much smaller incisions are required today and are carefully located in difficult-to-detect areas, such as in the hairline or the natural folds of the skin.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure
Taking care of your body is a lifetime responsibility. Eating right, staying fit and taking certain precautions, such as wearing sunscreen to protect your skin from the damaging rays of the sun, may seem like a cliché but promoting good health is understandably the best way to avoid many of life’s complications.
